Production & Sales Halted On 8 Toyota Models Due To Recall

January 29, 2010 by Showroom Logic · Leave a Comment

This is the first time in US History that an automaker actually halted sales and production of vehicles due to a safety recall.

8 different Toyota models were affected, adding up to 2.3 million vehicles. If you even that out to the 50 states, that would be 46,000 vehicles in every state. Three in every 100 cars driving around today are Toyota Camry’s.

This is no ordinary recall. It is a huge safety issue involving the possibility that the gas pedal could get stuck forcing the car to accelerate out of control. Some Orlando residents referred to it as “sudden unanticipated acceleration“.

WFTV offers these tips if this happens to you:

Here’s what to do if your car suddenly accelerates: Apply the brakes firmly and put the car into neutral without taking your foot off the brake. You will hear your engine rev, but you will be able to bring the car to a stop and turn it off. Be sure to come to a complete stop before killing the engine to avoid your steering wheel locking.

If you think about it, that could be a little scary. The effected models are the Toyota Avalon, Camry, Corolla, Highlander, Matrix, Rav 4, Sequoia and Tundra.

If you own a Toyota and aren’t sure if your model is affected, call the Toyota hotline at 1-800-331-4331.

Florida residents who want to to get rid of their Toyota can take advantage of Napleton Jeep Chrysler Dodge latest offer. If you trade in your Toyota, they will give you above market value for your vehicle.
